Why Petrol/Gasoline/Diesel?

The electric car has been around longer than the gasoline car.

They were being manufactured and sold before the advent of the gasoline powered cars.

Well, without getting into politics… it seems obvious to me, that’s it’s all about money!!  Please note, it is VERY rare for me to rant on any subject, however;

We have so many Natural Resources on this planet; waves, wind, sunshine (provides both heat & light – both of which could be stored!), that we could ‘harvest’ and utilse, without having to rape and pillage our beautiful planet, destroying rainforests, our wild animals and our natural habitat.

On top of the fumes, and ozone erosion… It seems crazy that we are building even more vehicles, with ever-larger, gas-guzzling engines, totally polluting our air, the earth’s crust and the delicate layer of ozone protecting us from the sun’s destructive power.

Every single flight leaves the vapour trail signs (wasted fuel spilling out and spread across the planet by the wind), and there are now tens of thousands of flights per day around the world.

We have the power, the ingenuity, the financial & technological resources to save our planet NOW… To STOP the need for fossil fuels and to stop this insanity!

Go green!

Facebook Update: Facebook Is Changing and Not Looking Back

On March 11th 2011, Facebook severely deprecated FBML (Facebook Markup Language) and that means you can no longer build Facebook fan pages or apps using FBML!

FBML has been replaced by the NEW Facebook iFrame Pages. The question is, are you ready?

You need to understand about the iFrames and get some ready-made templates to prepare for this change so your productions don’t go into a complete halt, while you take time to learn up the more challenging iFrames!

GM help line for non-drivers

General Motors doesn’t have a “help line” for people who don’t know how to drive, because people don’t buy cars like they buy computers — but imagine if they did….

Call No. 1
HELPLINE: “General Motors Helpline, how can I help you?”

CUSTOMER: “I got in my car and closed the door, and nothing happened!”

HELPLINE: “Did you put the key in the ignition slot and turn it?”

CUSTOMER: “What’s an ignition?”

HELPLINE: “It’s a starter motor that draws current from your battery and turns over the engine.”

CUSTOMER: “Ignition? Motor? Battery? Engine? How come I have to know all of these technical terms just to use my car?”

Call No. 2
HELPLINE: “General Motors Helpline, how can I help you?”

CUSTOMER: “My car ran fine for a week, and now it won’t go anywhere!”

HELPLINE: “Is the gas tank empty?”

CUSTOMER: “Huh? How do I know?”

HELPLINE: “There’s a little guage on the front panel, with a needle, and markings from ‘E’ to ‘F.’ Where is the needle pointing?”

CUSTOMER: “It’s pointing to ‘E.’ What does that mean?”

HELPLINE: “It means that you have to visit a gasoline vendor, and purchase some more gasoline. You can install it yourself, or pay the vendor to install it for you.”

CUSTOMER: “What!? I paid $12,000 for this car! Now you tell me that I have to keep buying more components? I want a car that comes with everything built in!”

HELPLINE: “General Motors Helpline, how can I help you?”

CUSTOMER: “Your car sucks!”

HELPLINE: “What’s wrong?”

CUSTOMER: “It crashed, that’s what went wrong!”

HELPLINE: “What were you doing?”

CUSTOMER: “I wanted to run faster, so I pushed the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor. It worked for a while, and then it crashed — and now it won’t start!”

HELPLINE: “It’s your responsibility if you misuse the product. What do you expect us to do about it?”

CUSTOMER: “I want you to send me one of the latest versions that doesn’t crash anymore!”

CUSTOMER: “Hi! I just bought my first car, and I chose your car because it has automatic transmission, cruise control, power steering, power brakes, and power door locks.”

HELPLINE: “Thanks for buying our car. How can I help you?”

CUSTOMER: “How do I work it?”

HELPLINE: “Do you know how to drive?”

CUSTOMER: “Do I know how to what?”

HELPLINE: “Do you know how to drive?”

CUSTOMER: “I’m not a technical person! I just want to go places in my car!”

If General Motors Made Computers

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated;  
‘If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon.’
In response to Bill’s comments, General Motors issued a press release stating:
If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:

1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash……..at least twice a day.
2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.
3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.
4. Occasionally, executing a manoeuvre, such as a left turn, would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.
5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive – but would run on only five percent of the roads.
6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single ‘This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation’ warning light.
7. The airbag system would ask ‘Are you sure?’ before deploying.
8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.
9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.
10. You’d have to press the ‘Start’ button to turn the engine off.

PS – I’d like to add that when all else fails, you could call ‘customer service’ in some foreign country and be instructed in some foreign language how to fix your car yourself!!!!

FB Privacy Settings – New in February 2011

When did you last review your facebook privacy settings?

Yes fb have changed the look and layout of the personal profile page a couple of times now and upset people in so doing.

However, they’ve also been busy behind the scenes adding extra features, specifically to your privacy settings.

1) You can stop people seeing your mobile telephone number, your address, DOB and email address.

1b) You can select who gets to see individual photo albums… you can even select just one or two named people.

1c) Review who gets to see your family! (that was one i wasn’t happy with!  this could allow any creep to slide in under the radar – I say PROTECT your family!!

2) There is also a new feature on the horizon;

“When photos look like me, suggest my name for friends to tag me!“

Unfortunately I couldn’t uncheck this option yet, but I’ve taken a screenshot below for you to see and check your own settings.

3) “Friends can check me in to places” – I still don’t really know what this does, or what places they are referring to… I’ll keep you posted!

So the tip for today is; take five minutes now and check YOUR privacy settings.

Click the drop down options at top right “Account” and then select “Privacy Settings”.

Make sure (when the option is there) that you SAVE your new settings.
